I found bear prints while camping with my dog atop Snow Mountain in Northern California. This is surprising at 7800 feet with so little vegetation. Morning came with contrails creating a mesh around the sky. Standing on the rocks, Laddie and I could see forever in all directions. Soon, I was sketching bears looking towards the ends of the earth, curious about all these streaks of white changing the view of the vast landscape—somehow more enclosed and defined by the contrails.
