The idea of bringing my two favorite animals together in one painting had been in my head for some time. I wanted to play with the size and power of the bear and the curious, upstart nature of a rabbit. Without too much menace, I hoped to explore the masculine and feminine, strength and sensitivity - either amongst others or within an individual. Whether or not these things were accomplished is for the viewer to decide, but people very often identify with one or the other of the animals in this piece.
