Definition: DAWN: 1. the first appearance of daylight in the morning. 2. the
beginning or rise of anything; advent. 3. a sudden realization, understanding, or
enlightenment. 4. to begin to grow or develop.
Loosely etched into the background of the painting
the artist writes, “Relish in the dawn of the past.” Perhaps Asencio is referring to a
sudden understanding of past events or the enlightenment that comes with growth through
past experiences or maybe just referring to new beginnings.
At its inception, Asencio claims he had no intellectual interpretation for this image, he was merely fascinated by the pure beauty of this pose. Capturing a glimpse of a woman in
the midst of the dawn of a new day he encapsulates simple serenity with color and light. Using white to symbolize purity and renewal, his palette is simple yet profound.
Whatever its underlying meaning, if any, the essence of “Dawn” is pure beauty and
simplicity, which is captivating in and of itself.
